She is today retired, however was at her occupy in the Sixties after she became Hammer horror's number one female star, by having The Gorgon (1964), Dracula, Prince of Darkness (1965) and Rasputin, the Mad Monk (1965) among her credits. Although she is referred to as the scream queen, in fact her best known scream (in the afore-aforesaid Dracula film) was dubbed by co-star Suzan Farmer.

She too appeared in the Doctor Who story Planet of Fire in 1985.
